Whether you’re already a member of ION, or are considering becoming a part of our fitness community, you’ll no doubt have a few questions. We’ve outlined some answers to the questions you may have below, though if there’s anything still niggling, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

How do I join? / Do I have to take the Beginners Course before I can start?

All new members must complete our beginners course when joining. If you are experienced with barbell exercises or have participated in CrossFit before then you may not need to complete our beginners course. This can be discussed with the team prior to joining.

Our Beginners Courses are completed on a 1:1 basis with one our ION Coaches and they will introduce you to techniques and mechanics of the main movements and exercises involved in classes. Costs can be found on the memberships page.

How often does the Beginners Course run?

Our beginners course is completed on a 1:1 basis. You are able to book in at a time of your convenience.

How long is a CrossFit class?

Classes are scheduled for 1 hour to allow for a warmup, a skill session, explanation, instruction and demonstration of the workout WOD (workout of the day), the performance of the WOD and cool down.

 
 

How many people take part in a Class?

Class sizes are anywhere from 4 to 20 members and no more, this is so that each member will receive the personal attention needed to insure exercises are performed safely and efficiently.

If I have an injury, can I still come in and workout with scaled movements?

It depends on the nature of your injury. If the injury is severe and a medical professional has advised you to take some time off to recuperate, we recommend you follow their advice. If it’s a minor injury, we are usually able to modify the workout for you to train around your injury and ensure a speedy recovery. Consult a coach if you are unsure.

What is your Open Gym Policy?

ION Strength and Conditioning is an all-coaching facility. We have a staff of expert coaches and want all of our members and visitors to benefit from them. Accordingly, we offer Open Gym sessions in addition to our Classes to work on extras but should only be seen as an addition to our regular coached classes.

What kind of meals should I eat before and after working out?

Your nutritional strategy will largely vary depending on your desired goals and outcomes for your training. Our coaches are well-educated and experienced in helping members of our community with nutritional guidance. Simply ask one of us and we’ll be happy to help you out!

Does ION Strength and Conditioning use any online training diaries for members to track their workouts?

Yes, we use a tracking system called WODify. Members can accesses the tracking system on their phones, laptops etc. to put in their daily workout results, comments etc. and can also then reference to past performances by using WODify, and more importantly, so that we can all support each other in our training endeavours.
