POWERLIFTING

WEIGHTLIFTING

Maximise your strength. Optimise your technique.

What is Powerlifting?

Powerlifting, is an individualised sport in which competitors attempt to lift as much weight as possible for one repetition in the squat, bench press, and deadlift. Each lifter is placed into a specific division and classified by several variables including weight class, age group, and experience level.

ION Strength and Conditioning are proud to run the Cardiff Powerlifting Club which caters to all experience levels, from highly competitive lifters to complete novices. Our specific powerlifting program, designed by our head powerlifting coach Jordan Heyler, is designed to get members to improve strength and ability across the three main lifts while improving technique and understanding in a fun, enthusiastic and supportive environment.

What is Olympic Weightlifting?

Olympic Weightlifting is one of the oldest competitive sports still practiced today. Olympic Weightlifting is centered around two main lifts, the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk. There are numerous variations of these lifts used to help develop strength and technique for theses lifts, including power cleans, power snatches, hang varieties, pauses, pulls and squats.

ION Strength and Conditioning are proud to run the Cardiff Barbell Club which delivers high level coaching to members looking to improve in the Olympic lifts. These classes run twice weekly (see out timetable here) and are programmed to help lifters of all levels to improve.

These classes are coached by BWL qualified coaches.
